Ice Princess is a visual record of the year I spent at McMurdo Station, Antarctica.
My expectations of scientists, solitude, and seriousness were all wrong, and I was instead met with a tightknit community of support staff having the oddest collection of life experiences and personalities I could imagine.
The creative and silly ways we kept each other entertained often took the form of themed parties, such as roller rink night or the midwinter feast, and with our extremely limited resources, I had to get creative when deciding what to wear. Ice Princess contains all the outfits I made for these events, further developed into 7 different characters representing the hardship and joy the women explorers of the Antarctic experience. And yes, we did wear them outside. What a privilege it is to feel that cold.
